Cleric regains freedom after 7 months in kidnappers den

By Martha Agas

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau expressed his joy at the release of Reverend Polycarp Zongo, pastor of the Church of Christ in the Nations (COCIN), Wild Life Park Jos, who was kidnapped by insurgents last October.

Lalong in a statement from his press and public affairs director Dr Makut Macham on Wednesday to Jos, shared the joy of his family and COCIN following his release.

He said the freedom of the cleric and other abducted people was an answer to the prayers of the Church and sympathizers, adding that she further affirmed that God does not abandon His people even in difficult times.

He congratulated all those who played various roles in facilitating Zongo’s release and expressed his concern for the family and the Church.

Lalong said such solidarity was necessary to overcome insecurity and intolerance in the country.

The governor wished the clergyman good luck as he recovers from the emotional and physical trauma of his captivity.

He urged Zango to stay strong and use his ordeal to encourage and motivate people to trust God more and respect humanity.

He instructed the church to continue to pray for God’s intervention in the affairs of the nation and to intercede for others in similar circumstances.

The governor also called for special prayers for the security agencies as they continue to fight the insurgents.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that Reverend Zongo was kidnapped on October 19, 2020 while on his way to a conference in Gombe State.

He was released with other abductees on June 14. (NOPE)
