Bariga, Lagos State – E be like say wahala don land for Bariga as dem rename the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop to Olamide Badoo Bus Stop. Veteran entertainer and rights activist, Charles Oputa, wey dem sabi well well as Charly Boy, don vex gbesu! This one no be joke at all.
The local council chairman, Kolade David, wey just finish him tenure, yan say dem do am to celebrate people wey don put Bariga for global map. He say dem go rename Ajidagan Street to Olamide Adedeji Badoo Street, meaning say Charly Boy Bus Stop go now be history: no more Charly Boy!
But as dem carry dis news come, Charly Boy no wan hear am at all. For him X (formerly twitter), he talk say renaming the bus stop na clear attempt to wash away him legacy of activism. “You fit change the name, but dem fit erase my truth?” Charly Boy yan.
He vex say dis change na fear of the man wey refuse to bow to oppressors. E talk say dem dey hide behind new name to cover their shame. “Bariga people remember wetin I don do, no be politician give dis name,” he continue, reminding dem say na him people stand with him all along.
Charly Boy go on say, “If dem like make dem change all di signboards, he still no go change di spirit wey dey behind dis name.” Na serious matter o!
Also, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore don join for di conversation, calling di renaming act “vindictive” and “spiteful”. He say na like dem dey rewrite history because dem dey fear di voices wey don challenge bad governance before.
For di government side, Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, say local government get di power to name streets, so dem no fit blame state for di matter. He add say, “Dem dey act within di law.” Okay, everybody don clear dem side for dis wahala.
Charly Boy don make am clear say no matter wetin dem do, his legacy go dey shine like star for di hearts of wetin him don touch with his activism. “You can change di name, but you can’t change di truth. Area Fada no dey finish!” he conclude. This gists don hot, and e no go cool anytime soon!
