Challenge to Address Discrimination in UCT’s NSFAS Policy
Students across South Africa are facing unfair discrimination based on their socio-economic backgrounds and this newest challenge has been brought to light by the students at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

The University’s National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has a mandate to create equal opportunity yet still fails to do so in many cases.

This has prompted many students to voice their opinions but not all people have the knowledge or experience to make a meaningful contribution.

On Monday 13th February a campus shutdown was initiated to protest the NSFAS accommodation caps and financial exclusion people are facing.
The growing tension shows that the current system needs to be re-evaluated.
This issue has also been highlighted by the research of the Eskom Intelligence Files which has been able to raise awareness of those who are trying to rob the country’s future away from those who inhabit it.
