The Chairperson of the African Union Commission calls for tolerance and peaceful co-existence in Western Ethiopia
1 The Chairman of the African Union Commission, HE Moussa Faki Mahamat, has noted with concern reports of attacks in the Welega area of the Oromia region of Western Ethiopia that have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians.


3 The President deeply regrets the loss of life and calls for an investigation into these attacks. Furthermore, he urges the Ethiopian Federal Government and regional authorities to take the necessary actions to protect all civilians, including minorities, and ensure that such incidents are prevented.

4 The President expresses his condolences to the bereaved families and stands in solidarity with the people of Ethiopia and those who promote peaceful coexistence, unity, peace and reconciliation.
