CBN pledges more support for youth empowerment

By Muhyideen Jimoh

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has pledged to further support youth empowerment, through sport and its other intervention programs.

CBN spokesperson Osita Nwanisobi cited Emefiele as having made the pledge in the final of the All Institutional Football Competition (AFIFC), played on Sunday at UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

Represented by the deputy director of the corporate communications department, CBN Samuel Okogbure, the governor called on young people to explore all the opportunities offered by the bank, including sports.

He urged Nigerian youth to participate in official apex bank programs which are linked to a wide range of events aimed at improving sustainable development.

“Let me assure you that the CBN leadership remains committed to sponsoring this tournament.

“Allow me also to take the opportunity of this tournament to encourage our many young people to adopt various intervention programs of the bank to improve their lot and contribute to the development of the nation.

“I encourage you to access our various interventions in the agricultural sector, as well as the Creative Industry Trust Initiative (CIFI) with both high and low interest in fashion, music and technology.

“I would like to thank the Cross River State government for hosting the finals in this beautiful sports arena. Let me also thank our long-time partner, the Nigerian Football Federation, for organizing this tournament, ”he said.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that the 24-team football competition saw the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) become champions after a 4-1 penalty shootout victory over the CBN Strikers.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) took bronze after a 2-0 victory over Bubayero FC for third place.

The winners of the 34th annual tournament went home with the sum of N2 million, while the finalists received N1.5 million.

The second finalists and the fourth teams were awarded with amounts of N1 million and N500,000 respectively.
