Caretaker committee promises better times for Anambra football stakeholders, unveils new FA secretariat

Emeka Okeke, Chairman of Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA) Caretaker Committee, on Thursday in Awka assured that stakeholders in the sector will get their due reward henceforth.

Okeke gave the assurance at a meeting between his committee members and club owners.

He said the “My Anambra Football” project was aimed at returning the game to the real owners who are the people of the state.

Okeke promised to set up a standard Nationwide League One (NLO) stadia in the state’s 21 local government areas before the expiration of his three-month tenure when elections would be conducted.

The caretaker chairman regretted that club owners in Anambra had not been carried along in the game’s administration in the state.

“I blame the previous FA boards in the state for this, by not giving you a voice as major stakeholders,’’ he said.

Okeke, while unveiling a new AnSFA secretariat after the meeting, directed every club owner in the state to go to Anambra Health Insurance Agency and enrol for a free one-year health insurance.

“We need an office that is befitting the status of Anambra, where we can be proud to receive our football ambassadors across the world.

“The `My Anambra Football’ project is our way of planting the game further into the consciousness of our people.

“We will take the game to the grass roots and in the next three months our NLO standard pitch will be ready in every LGA.

“Every team that has featured in the state FA competition for the last three years will get a support grant of N50,000 and every club owner has a free one-year health insurance.

“We are setting standards, so that whoever emerges after the elections can take it up from there,” he said.

Anayo Obiako, the proprietor of Awka FC, said the committee’s programmes were laudable and expressed the hope that they were not politically motivated.

Obiako said club management was not an easy task and promised that the club owners would support any genuine effort to address the challenges facing the game in the state.

Other club owners at the meeting also said there was the need to have legislation for some of the programmes.

“This is necessary so that they would not be dictated by the individuals involved but the system.’’
