Car hits gate of German Chancellery
A car crashed on the gate of the German Federal Chancellery, office of Chancellor Angela Merkel, at the center of Berlin on Wednesday morning.
“Our colleagues are currently on the scene at the office of the Chancellor along with federal police,” the Berlin police tweeted, saying that they are in the process of clarifying whether the driver steered into it.
“He has been taken into police custody,” said the Tweet.
Video clips on social media showed that a car stopped in front of the closed metal gate of the Chancellery. Both the vehicle and the metal gate showed minor signs of damage. The police cordoned off the area.
The vehicle had license plates from the North Rhine-Westphalia.
Unverified images shared on social media showed a black Volkswagen sedan with a message painted on its left side saying: “You damned children and old people murderers.” On the other side of the vehicle painted “Stop Globalization Politics.”
