Buni approves conditional lifting of motorcycle ban in 10 Yobe LGs

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni approved Monday the conditional lifting of the motorcycle ban in 10 of the state’s 17 LGAs.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Affairs, Dahiru Abdulsalam in Damaturu.

The state imposed a ban on the use of motorcycles in the affected areas about a decade ago due to safety concerns.

Abdulsalam listed the local government areas involved to include Fika, Fune, Nangere, Potiskum, Bade, Machina, Nguru, Jakusko, Karasuwa, and Yusufari.

However, he stated that the measure was based on eight conditions that must be met by each and every one.

“The motorcycles must operate between 6 am and 6 pm every day. Motorcycles should not be used for ‘Achaba’ (commercial).

“There will be no transportation of passengers on motorcycles. Only one rider will be allowed without any other person on the bike.

“There must be proper registration, license and documentation of all motorcycles and cyclists in affected LGAs by the Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency.

“All motorcycles must only operate within their respective LGAs.

“Any motorcyclist who transports passengers must be sanctioned in accordance with the rules and regulations in force.

“There should be no movement between areas of the local government with motorcycles and anyone who violates this rule should be duly sanctioned.

“All security agencies are requested to monitor and ensure strict compliance with these directives,” the statement added.
