Bulgaria News Agency, partner to deepen media relations

Mr. Yanko Yordanov, Amb. from Bulgaria to Nigeria, revealed during his courtesy visit to Managing Director of, Mr Buki Ponle, in Abuja on Monday.

He noted that much would be learned about the two countries when the partnership was fully implemented, after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the two agencies.

According to him, the partnership will focus on what Bulgaria and Nigeria could do together, in very important areas of cooperation through the exchange of information.

Yordanov said: “Bulgaria and Nigeria have witnessed a very long history of friendship and cooperation, which dates back to 57 years ago; these years, the two countries have enjoyed fruitful cooperation.

“Now in Bulgaria we remember those days and absolutely want to bring them back to reality, we believe that contact with the media is an important dimension for the cooperation between BNA and.

“So, I am here to express my satisfaction as Ambassador and finalize the agreement between BNA and, and to send you greetings from the CEO of BNA.

“If acceptable in December, this agreement can come into effect by signing a memorandum of understanding; the importance of this document does not only concern the overall perception of cooperation between our countries.

“So we think that now will present its story about what is happening in Nigeria to Bulgaria and vice versa, BNA will offer you our presentation of events in Bulgaria”.

He described the MoU, which would be signed in December 2021, as timely, saying it will be an important tool to strengthen cooperation between Bulgaria and Nigeria.

“When it enters into force, it will strengthen exchanges between Bulgarian economic operators and Nigerians, promote economic cooperation, strengthen institutions in terms of security and agriculture.

“I am very happy to be one of the mediators between BNA and; Let us hope that this cooperation will be fruitful and will develop our two nations ”, he declared.

In response, Ponle said that since its inception by the federal government, it has operated in tandem with its mandate to report responsibly and objectively on Nigeria and Nigerians.

He said that since starting operations in 1978, it has established stations located in Africa, Europe, Asia and America, but due to lack of funds, foreign stations have been reduced to three.

According to him, one are each functional in South Africa, Ivory Coast and New York; adding that plans are underway to open more offices, possibly this time in Bulgaria.

“We want to strengthen our strength and we want to resonate not only in Nigeria, but around the world, as the largest producer of news content in Africa, because it is strategic.

“We know Bulgaria in terms of trade, investment and culture, and these are things we want to project to Nigerians and other parts of the world.

“So much has been said about negative perceptions of Nigeria, but when you enter the country you are convinced that the opposite is the case,” Ponle said.

“Yes, there may be challenges that we are trying to overcome, very soon all these rounds of kidnappings and banditry will be over.

“The federal government is aware of the situation and must deal decisively with the situation to put an end to the vices,” said Ponle.

He noted that this has evolved into a cutting edge news agency and has offices across the country with many subscribers which consist mostly of foreign news agencies where it exchanges information.

He revealed that the agency plans to expand its borders to respond to new age operations and strengthen its relations with the media, adding that it will not work as usual.

He said, however, that the agency is focusing on all topical issues inside and outside Nigeria, saying that when the partnership comes into full force, the two countries will mutually benefit.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of a literary gift from Yordanov to Ponle.
