Buhari to department heads: hope your best will be good enough for Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari again challenged the new department heads and Acting Inspector General of Police Usman Baba to work diligently to meet the expectations of Nigerians

The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that the President has given the charge while evaluating the performance of the new department heads as well as the tasks incumbent on them and that of the acting IG.

The President, who answered questions from State House correspondents upon his arrival from London after a successful medical examination, said:

“Oh yeah, they (the managers) have always been in the system, they know what’s wrong, they know what’s right and I think they’re doing the best they can.

“I hope their best will be good enough for Nigeria.”

President Buhari, who announced the appointment of acting IG Usman Baba in London via Police Affairs Minister Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, said due process was strictly followed in selecting the new IG.

He said, “Well, we went through the system, there was a committee of the Minister of Police Affairs, they gave me names and he was chosen.

“He knows his job, he has worked there for a long time, he has followed all the training courses, he has the necessary experience.

“So we expect a lot from him.”

NAN reports that the presidential plane carrying the president and some presidential aides landed at the presidential wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday at around 4:45 p.m.

Those present at the airport to greet the president included the president’s chief of staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammed Bello and the president’s national security adviser, the retired major. Gen. Babagana Monguno.

Others were the department heads, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufa’i, the Director General of the State Services Department. , Yusuf Bichi and other presidential assistants.

NAN reports that the President, after a brief welcoming ceremony at the airport, boarded a presidential helicopter that took him to the Presidential Villa.

On March 30, President Buhari left Abuja for London, UK, for a routine medical check-up. (NOPE)
