BlueInvest Africa 2022 event officially opened in Seychelles

  The President of the Republic Mr Wavel Ramkalawan delivered the opening speech at the official opening ceremony of the BlueInvest Africa 2022 event held this morning at the Eden Bleu hotel Held for the first time in Seychelles outside of Europe this two day event is the result of a partnership between the European Union and the Government of Seychelles that has put the blue economy at the heart of its development In addition as a key sector to develop its socioeconomic aspirations and achieve the different objectives of the 2030 Agenda in particular SDG 14 Life below water There are 500 participants who attend this business event both physical and online Twenty two pitchers were selected to make further presentations and share their knowledge through sessions in front of a series of panels covering topics such as renewable energy and water solutions safe economy and solution for plastic and waste fishing and aquaculture solar energy solutions energy as well as technology and innovative solutions The event will also see the participation of fifteen well established and promising African Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs who will showcase and exhibit their projects and businesses as well as their final products During his opening address President Ramkalawan underlined the goal and objectives of BlueInvest Africa which he said is to drive innovation and investment in sustainable technologies for the blue economy thus the participants are expected to present the agenda achievements and Seychelles exchanges of experiences Because entrepreneurship initiative and innovation especially in the blue economy can only take off and thrive in a conducive environment I want you to reflect on this during your networking sessions and presentations and I want BlueInvest Africa to really lead the way forward We Africa and Europe come together in Seychelles to take a new look at the waters around us and the opportunities they offer Our Blue Planet offers vast new and exciting possibilities And we are all called to share these opportunities said the President The Head of State commented on how everyone depends on the oceans lakes and rivers whether for transportation as climate regulators and as the world s largest carbon reservoir Also the importance of the cultural environmental and socioeconomic value of the Earth s aquatic resources to humans regardless of their geographic location and whether they are classified as coastal insular or landlocked Thereafter President Ramkalawan called for global efforts and collaborations in relation to oceans and aquatic resources Our aquatic resources are clearly our most valuable asset All the more reason why the African Union has identified the Blue Economy as the continent s new path of development The oceans are also one of the least explored areas of our planet They can offer solutions to some of the world s most pressing problems such as renewable and sustainable energy extractive resources medicine food security and much more He added With mounting global pressure for countries to employ greener practices to counter climate change our nations are being forced to continually seek ways to ensure environmental integrity while ensuring that our people can enjoy their basic human rights and needs and livelihoods are secured for generations to come What is the best way to do this than through exploring the potential of the Blue Economy In closing he called on the participants to embrace and foster innovation and ingenuity in the business sector In addition to see the Blue Economy as a great potential and he emphasized the need to promote a more practical multisectoral approach that stimulates the development of the business aspect of the Blue Economy By encouraging population not only in terms of food security but also sustainable development and growing economic opportunities available to all There Ms Vitcheva encouraged the participants to take advantage of
