Beyond Paradise series 1 finale teases Death in Paradise crossover

Viewers of Beyond Paradise will get a surprise Death in Paradise crossover event sooner than expected. A sneak peek of episode 8 – the finale – shows Kris Marshall’s character Humphrey returning to Saint Marie. Humphrey is reunited with his lizard friend, Harry, which addresses a small mystery about his fate in Death in Paradise’s season 3 finale. It has yet to be revealed what brings Humphrey back to the island.

The case in the finale

Humphrey is to tackle what looks like an unsolvable case as the Shipton Abbott police team investigates a burglary that initially looks like it points to Atticus Styles, a local criminal. However, further forensic evidence implicates another person – Hayley Collins – who was in a jail cell at the time of the crime, being watched by PC Kelby Hartford. Humphrey has to use all his ingenuity to solve the case.

Impending cliffhanger

Humphrey’s doubts about his relationship with Martha still remain, and persist in his subconscious thoughts throughout his investigation. Will they cast a shadow on his investigation?

Crossover

Death in Paradise showrunners, Tony Jordan and Tim Key, previously hinted to Digital Spy that Beyond Paradise was intended to “stand in its own right” before any visits to Saint Marie. They have, however, said that they are eager to make fans of Death in Paradise happy while also maintaining the spinoff’s integrity. With this in mind, the crossover episode will air on April 7th on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
