Benin to host NBBF Elective Congress on Oct. 30

The Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) Congress approved elections to the Federation’s Executive Council on October 30.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that Congress ratified Benin as the host city, while also adopting the proposed electoral committee.

The committee is to be chaired by Dr Lanre Glover and the decision was taken at its extraordinary congress which was held in Abuja on Saturday.

Glover will be replaced by Alhaji Mohammed Fema, with Dr Femi Olugbile, Hauwa Kulu-Akinyemi as members, while Emmanuel Okibe will act as secretary of the committee.

With participation from all 36 states and the FCT basketball presidents and secretaries, Congress also approved the appointment of Ms. Ize Matebese as chair of the 2021 NBBF Election Appeal Committee.

It is alongside retired General David Lubo as member and Emmanuel Zira as secretary.

At the congress, chaired by the interim president of the Nigerian Basketball Federation, Mr. Musa Kida, all stakeholders were invited to submit their comments.

These comments concerned either an addition or an amendment to the constitution for the process, in accordance with Article 38 of the approved constitution of the NBBF.

This was unanimously agreed to as part of the ongoing process of amending the constitution, which has been described as an ongoing exercise as enshrined in the constitution.

Also reports that the permanent secretary to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ismaila Abubakar, who represented the minister, Sunday Dare, was present.

Ishaku Tikon, represented the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Mr. Habu Gumel, among several other dignitaries.
