By Ayinde Olaïde

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, inaugurated the 1.5 billion naira youth and women’s empowerment program titled “Kaura Economic Empowerment Program (KEEP). “

Mohammed revealed it on Saturday at the official flag of the empowerment program in the Zaki local government area in the state.

He said he decided to use the celebration of Democracy Day, which is a special day in Nigeria, to start the distribution of the economic strengthening items in the state.

The governor said the KEEP program was a state government initiative designed to empower youth and women.

He said motorcycles and other economic strengthening items worth 75 million naira have been provided for distribution to youth and women in Zaki.

The items included three cars, 54 motorcycles, several sewing and grinding machines.

“We will give young people and women incentives to reduce poverty and provide them with employment opportunities,” he said.

Mohammed explained that the gesture would be replicated in 19 other local government areas in the state, adding that it was in line with his campaign promises.

“Our government has done so much in the area of infrastructure development, it is now opportune that we focus on how to improve the lives of our citizens as well.

“We have been criticized for building roads without considering the well-being of citizens and because of the promise we made, which is why we have remained adamant in our quest for state development.

“These items that we are distributing today are worth 75 million naira and we will extend the same gesture to all 19 remaining local government areas in the state,” he said.

Mohammed urged beneficiaries to ensure efficient use of the items to engage in productive activities to enable them to become employers of labor.

In a remark, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed, the governor’s wife, said the empowerment program would help women become empowered.

She said the move would also allow mothers to enroll their children in school, as they now have their own businesses. (NAA)
