South Sudan has an abundance of natural resources. However, this young nation has yet to tap into its unlimited potential to benefit all communities.

Peacekeepers deployed to Wau with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) therefore conducted an awareness session with students from Bahr el Ghazal University on applied science and research methodologies. to use the available resources for the benefit of the communities and generate local production of necessary elements.

“Our goal in organizing this session with university students is to guide them so that they understand that everything that surrounds them is capital that can be used intelligently to improve the lives of communities,” Lieutenant Colonel Altab Hossain told the participants who attended. to the conference.

“Your country is full of fertile farmland, cattle; This can create a wealth of income-generating opportunities for young graduates, like all of you. However, you must know the technologies and innovations that exist to help you become an entrepreneur in your own right, “he added.

The conference featured agricultural practices that are rooted in tried and tested science. The students were excited and said they found the event helpful.

“These UNMISS peacekeepers have opened my eyes to all the possibilities our country has,” said Edward Lino, 27, a senior natural resources student.

“We as youth must do more to ensure that we make use of what nature has given us to not only benefit ourselves and our families, but also entire communities as a whole. If we embrace peace we will be able to manufacture many things on our own instead of importing basic products from neighboring countries, ”he added with passion.

Edward’s fellow student Agol Mabior has already presented sustainable ideas on natural resource development after the session.

“I think I know what my first project is. I will come up with a way to use the fruit from all the mango trees on our university campus to produce fresh juice without additives, ”he stated.

Bangladesh peacekeepers also restocked the university library with new textbooks to help students learn more about how to use natural resources for the benefit of many.
