The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, described the recently concluded XIII Biennial Police Games in Uyo as a strategic internal security tool, which will further the cause of internal security by bringing the Police closer to the people.
In its closing remarks at the Games, IGP said that through the Games, great new sports talents have been discovered that will have a national impact.
He said the games have prepared the Nigerian Police, which he described as the country’s top security agency, for the upcoming elections.
The IGP also added that the games have provided mental agility, physical fitness and also ensured that officers are combat-ready to secure life and property.
Governor Emmanuel, represented by his deputy Moses Ekpo, said that the Games, in addition to generating a healthy spirit of competition among the athletes, have also developed a team spirit and esprit de corps among the officers and men of the Force.
In his remarks, Force Sport Planning Committee Chairman/Sole Administrator AIG Hafiz Inuwa said that the 13th Biennial Police Games, courtesy of IGP, have showcased its rich sporting tradition with the discovery of budding stars with great potential.
He said the theme of this year’s Games, ‘Promoting sporting excellence to ensure fitness for operational demands and combat readiness’, was well thought out.
