Assassin’s Creed Mirage Gameplay Trailer Unveiled: A Return to the Series’ Roots
After months of waiting, fans finally got a closer look at the highly-anticipated Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Ubisoft Bordeaux released a gameplay trailer during Sony’s PlayStation Showcase event, which showcased a faster-paced, action-packed experience more in line with the game’s original roots. Prior to the release of the trailer, fans had expressed concerns about the game’s development, but the trailer and confirmation of the game’s release date on October 12 have put to rest those rumors.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage features the protagonist Basim’s journey through Baghdad and promises to be a shorter experience, which could be a welcoming change for fans who were overwhelmed by the sprawling games from recent entries. Despite Ubisoft’s claims that the game would be a return to the series’ roots, some were worried that its development did not align with the original vision. But with the launch of the gameplay trailer, fans can rest easy knowing that Ubisoft is staying true to its promise.
The game resembles the first Assassin’s Creed in many ways, featuring a similar setting and renewed focus on combat and freerunning as players navigate through the crowded streets of Baghdad. With the recent entries in the franchise becoming increasingly lengthier, the back-to-basics approach of Assassin’s Creed Mirage could be a tough sell for newer players. But it is expected to bring back longtime fans of the franchise who had grown tired of the lengthy gameplay mechanics.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s smaller scale game could broaden the franchise’s appeal in lead-up to several upcoming Assassin’s Creed games. And even though the game is shorter than previous entries, it promises to reveal some important new pieces of Assassin’s Creed lore. By returning to its roots, Ubisoft can deliver an experience that appeals to players unwilling or unable to devote hours to reach end credits. It is expected to be a worthy successor to the franchise’s storied legacy and could recapture the magic that made the first Assassin’s Creed a hit.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will launch on October 12 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
