Arrest warrants issued for over 200 terrorism suspects in Turkey

Turkish prosecutors on Friday issued arrest warrants for 224 people suspected of links to two separate groups that the Turkish government considers terrorist organizations.

A total of 115 of the suspects have already been detained across the country, state news agency Anadolu reported.

He added that 54 of the detainees have alleged ties to the far left Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party / Front, DHKP / C.

The suspects were accused of planning attacks, Anadolu said, without giving further details.

The DHKP / C was reportedly behind major terrorist attacks in Turkey in 2013 and 2015.

61 other people detained had ties to US-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen, according to the report.

The suspects were accused, among other things, of infiltrating the headquarters of the Turkish Gendarmerie, a militarized law enforcement agency responsible for public order.

The Turkish government considers Gulen responsible for planning the failed 2016 military coup against the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Gulen denies the charges.
