Armed Forces Day: NANS calls for improved package for soldiers
National Association of Nigerian Students
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for an improved welfare of personnel in the armed forces especially the soldiers at the forefront of the crusade against insurgency.

Mr Adeyemi Azeez, the National Public Relations Officer, of the association made the call in a statement

to commemorate the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day,
in Abuja on Wednesday.
Azeez said that the soldiers who were at the forefront of the insurgency in the northeast and some other places where there are pockets of violence deserved enhanced welfare.
He also called for the immortalization of the fallen heroes as well as decent and living wages to the soldiers.
“Today, Jan. 15, is a day set aside internationally to remember those who died in the line of duty while fighting to ensure the territorial integrity of our dear country on land, air and water.
“This day is not breached or tampered with.
“As we converge on different centres throughout the nation to celebrate this day to honour the fallen and living heroes who gallantly risked and continue to risk their lives for the defence of the territorial integrity of the nation, we demand for an improved welfare package for our soldiers.
“We also demand equipment for our soldiers with needed battle tools to prosecute the war against terrorism and all form of rebelliousness,” he said.
He said that the only way to ensure that `the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain’ as stated in the 10th line of the National Anthem, was to get them immortalized.
