At the moment, the most frequent question on the lips of Nigerians is the presidential election in 2023. Analyzes are being made on who will be the next president of the most populous country in Africa.

All Progressives Congress

But before the 2023 general election, in a few weeks, delegates from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will choose national officials. The impending party elections are not without drama either.

The highest position, the presidency, is naturally the position that would generate the most issues and talking points. This is because, of course, it is critical to achieving the APC presidential bid.

George Akume

A number of politicians are shooting for it. They include: Senator George Akume, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, Malam Saliu Mustapha, Mallam Isa Yuguda, Abdulaziz Yari, Ali Modu-Sherrif, Senator Sani Mohammed Musa, and the youngest of them, Mohammadu Saidu-Estu.

Malam Saliu Mustapha

Each of the candidates has the ability to move the party forward despite the party’s leadership being touted as being zoned in the Center-North. If the scoop is true, given his personality and profile, Malam Saliu Mustapha, the Turaki of Ilorin, should simply be given the diadem.

All Peoples Party

Turaki’s political career spans more than two decades. His journey into active politics began in the late 1990s when Nigeria was still recovering from dictatorial rule by the military. His early days in politics were with the All Peoples Party (APP) in 1999 and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2003.

Muhammadu Buhari

Mustapha was an integral part of the movement that defended the presidential ambition of President Muhammadu Buhari during the days of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He was also instrumental in the coalition of parties that gave rise to the APC.

As well as being a staunch mobilizer, Mustapha has a knack for forging harmony between disparate groups, which is what APC needs ahead of the general election. The people who worked with him while he was vice president of the defunct APC are always testifying.

You can’t help but feel amazed upon having an encounter with him, due to the aura he exudes. My first encounter with the colossus was one morning at the Abuja airport, when he and his family got out of a vehicle parked next to mine.

Abdulkareem Alabi Mohammed

Having seen his poster in strategic places, I just walked up to him and exchanged compliments and he gave me his contact and that of his executive assistant, a very jovial and hard-working lawyer, Abdulkareem Alabi Mohammed.

Alfred Olufemi

I was curious and wanted to know more about him. I contacted a friend, Alfred Olufemi, to ask him about the man I met. Alfred said nice things about the man even though they never met in person. According to Alfred, he once brought media experts to Kwara State to train young bloggers on the ethics of journalism and fake news. This act shocked me as not many Nigerian politicians would think of this, even though fake news has become a threat in the social and socio-political fabric of Nigeria.

Although there are other bigwigs from North-Central, I think what makes Mustapha stand out is his prowess in managing people from different backgrounds and his management experience. These are missing from other candidates. The 49-year-old man also makes a clean slate, since he has no history of encounters with anti-corruption agencies or controversies linked to him, because it would be scandalous and shameful for the leadership of the ruling party to fall into the hands of an accused. personality.

Mallam Saliu

My warning to APC delegates is that they should consider an applicant who has a manifesto of prioritizing youth participation if they want to have a party that will serve as a strong institution that will stand the test of time because the next phase of Nigerian politics it will be to rely on personalities with general appeal. Mallam Saliu has exemplified this as his motto is to do things differently.
