Anambra governorship candidate pledges more dividends of democracy

By Joy Mbachi

A contender for the next election for governor of Anambra, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, said that although Nigeria has enjoyed 22 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, there is still a long way to go.

“We are celebrating 22 years of democracy, but there is still a long way to go when we talk about dividends on the ground.

“If you look at the level of achievements, you will find that we have not lived up to expectations,” Ezeemo said in a statement released to Awka on Sunday by his publicist, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwuebuka.

While commending Nigerians for celebrating 22 years of uninterrupted democracy in the country, Ezeemo said the country still faces many problems, including electoral irregularities, a lack of infrastructure and poor performance by incumbents. political charges.

“Most, if not all of the elections held in the country are still far from credible, the security situation is bad, the murder rate continues to accelerate, the economy is not dynamic, the roads are bad. and the electricity supply is poor. Ezeemo said in the statement.

To solve the many problems, the aspiring governor in the November elections called for credible polls to allow the people to choose their leaders.

While congratulating some former leaders for the deepening of democracy in the country, Ezeemo especially thanked former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra Governor, Mr. Peter Obi.

“These are my two main heroes of democracy in Nigeria… Jonathan as a national hero and Obi as an exceptional hero in the South East where his exceptional performance as governor remains the model of leadership,” he said. he declares.

He said Jonathan boosted democracy in the country by conceding defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 elections, a feat seen as un-African.

Ezeemo said Jonathan’s decision to accept defeat, as incumbent president and commander-in-chief, had simply propelled him to the rank of the leading heroes of democracy in Africa.

He said Obi’s ability to reclaim his stolen mandate in court and his outstanding performance as governor for eight years had yet to be matched by any governor in the Southeast geopolitical zone.

“Obi was the first to recover a stolen warrant in court and this gave others the courage to go to court to seek redress for a stolen warrant,” he said.

He praised what he called Obi’s “superlative performance” in eight years as governor, stressing that this made him a hero.

He said it was necessary to immediately implement electoral reforms in order to control electoral irregularities and allow electorate choice to prevail.

Chairman of Orient Group of Companies, which is said to have over 4,000 employees, Ezeemo has pledged to deepen democracy by paying democracy dividends in the same way Obi has done.

He assured the people of Anambra that he has everything it takes in terms of experience and exposure to produce the dividends of democracy. (NAA)
