Awka, Anambra, Naija – Today na the grand finale for Anambra state as dem dey set to choose dem next governor for the next four years. But wetin we go call low turnout of voters? E be like say people no gree show face like say dem dey fear wahala.
As INEC don deploy everything wey dem need to polling units, voting don start to happen for di 21 local government areas since morning. We even dey watch live updates from Channels Television wey dey show how everything dey go down for ground. No be small drama, my padi!
But wait oh, as at 3:45 pm, di counting don start for polling units 02 and 03, Amawbia, Awka South. E be like say di report of voter turnout no sweet for dem mouth as Fegge, Onitsha South no dey show plenty people. Wetin happen? Na only fine weather wey dem come carry go?
Police chopper dey hover around Awka like say na military operation be this! Naija no go gree rest, e go fit be say dem just wan catch dem where dem dey organize any funny business.
Former governor Peter Obi don cast him vote. But him voice no quiet at all. E talk say “Ever since, na di people wey dey suffer di most na dem dey push bad governance.” Chai! Hope say dem no monetize him vote o! Dem dey buy votes for as much as ₦30,000, and dis one dey vex am well well.
After speaking with some voters, e clear say most of dem dey sell dem vote to survive—not as if dem enjoy am. “If you sell your vote today, wetin you go chop next month?” Na di question wey Obi use carry our eyes wakka.
Dem also say di election don dey run peacefully, but early bird no show for polling units. Even when wey dem dey gather for election materials, na new story completely as some places no gree open on time. D story of the day go fit be low turnout and tales of vote buying—Naija wey no dey rest.
While di counting dey go on for some areas, di Governor Charles Soludo dey bask in di confidence of victory. E dey boast sey APGA go carry the day. But you know sey wahala no dey ever finish for Naija. E dey hear rumor say somebody dey plan to manipulate di results. Na for wetin we dey look like movie plot?
Nwosu from di ADC don accuse APGA of buying votes, while Nicholas Ukachukwu from APC dey complain say him agents dey face intimidation like say dem be criminals. Wetin we dey here na di usual story wey dey surround elections for di country.
As we dey watch di situation unfold, plenty things dey happen: from police don gather waka, to EFCC dey on ground to monitor di wahala wey dey gathi, na true true no be everyday we see dem for public. Na only yesterday dem dey give us updates, today na di election itself. Over 2 million registered voters dey expect to turn out across plenty polling units. Wetin we go call this? Political drama at its best!
No matter wetin happen, we dey hope sey di people go shine dem eyes. E fit be say dem go come out in large numbers to vote for who dem want—a good government wey no go just dey chop dem money.
Dis na di time for every Anambra citizen to put dem mouth for di matter. Whether you dey fear or you dey jolly, one thing sure: your vote na your power!
