Amy Dowden Shares Devastating News on Cancer Diagnosis
The professional dancer, Amy Dowden, has opened up about her future in dancing after being diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. The 32-year-old shared the heartbreaking news with her fans last week on social media, where she also vowed to return to the dance floor as soon as possible.
Amy initially shared the news on Wednesday, where she wrote, “I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, but I’m determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it.” She received an outpouring of love and support from fans and famous friends, including fellow Strictly stars.
Amy shared a further update on Instagram, where she posted a photo of herself dancing on Strictly and wrote, “This feeling of performing is like no other! Thank you for every single comment and message today! It means so much to me and my incredible family I’m so lucky to be surrounded by!”.
Amy found a lump in her right breast back in April, just before jetting off to the Maldives with husband Ben for their honeymoon. When she returned, the dancer booked an appointment with her GP and was referred to an emergency referral where she received her diagnosis last week.
Despite the diagnosis of grade 3 breast cancer, Amy remains hopeful as she told Hello! that her doctor believes they caught it early. She also revealed that her mother had been diagnosed with thyroid and breast cancer in the past.
While she doesn’t know yet if she’ll be able to return to Strictly Come Dancing later this year, executive producer Sarah James said that the show is sending Amy all their love and support, adding that she’s an exceptional person both on and off the dance floor.
Amy is undoubtedly a fighter, and her fans are supporting her every step of the way as she battles this illness.
