Alleged sexual assault: Baba Ijesha to be arraigned on June 24

By Moji Eniola

Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka aka Baba Ijesha is due to stand trial in a special court in Ikeja on Thursday for allegations of child sexual assault.

Baba Ijesha, who has been in detention since his arrest on April 22, is due to stand trial before Judge Oluwatoyin Taiwo on June 24, the judge’s list of cases revealed.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the case is on the court’s list of cases.

NAN reports that the actor was arrested on June 16 in Yaba Magistrates’ Court for indecent treatment of a child, defiling a child, sexual assault by penetration, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault.

He pleaded not guilty but was remanded in custody by Magistrate PE Nwaka over indications that the case is before the High Court.

Nwaka magistrates in that decision said, “I have carefully considered the request of the accused’s lawyer for bail for the accused and the opposition of the DPP’s lawyer.

“As there are indications that the case is in the High Court and that the defendant will appear in court, no bond can be given.

“The defendant must receive all medical care from the authorities pending his indictment in the High Court. “(NAA)
