Edo election should present a new watershed.

We will work hard to win the Ondo election. Having reaffirmed our commitment to free and fair elections, it is our expectation that all opposition parties in the country will also commit themselves to free and fair contests.

We will therefore accordingly expect congratulatory message from all parties just as we similarly guarantee that once we are defeated in a fair contest, we will congratulate the winner.

May God continue to bless our democracy, our nation and our people!

His Excellency, Mai Mala Buni

Chairman, APC Caretaker Extraordinary/Convention Planning Committee

Tinubu hails wife at 60

Published

on

Sen. Bola Tinubu, National Leader, All Progressives Congress (APC), has felicitated with his wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, as she clocks 60.

Tinubu, in a tribute on Monday in Lagos, praised the Sen. representing Lagos Central Senatorial District for her perseverance, endurance and independent character.

He appreciated her commitment, humanitarian care for both young, the elderly and the needy, especially for the people of her senatorial district.

The APC leader described Sen. Tinubu as her greatest friend, ally and supporter even at mostly difficult times.

“We are a living symbol of love, care, perseverance and commitment. There are so many moments, twists and turns in our lives.

“During the dark days when democracy was assaulted in this country, we suffered a lot, the family suffered and as a result of that, she was in America while I was criss-crossing Europe.

“It was a very trying period for every one of us as my wife single handedly raised our children.

“We endured and got through all the turbulence and today we are still in positions to serve our nation and serve our people,” he said

The former governor of Lagos who expressed happiness as his wife attained 60, thanked God for sparing their lives and preserving their love together.

“This moment when Nigeria is 60, my wife is also 60. It is a wonderful thing.

“We mark the day with soberness. Soberness because many people pray to live to see today but they could not.

“The pandemic has taken away some of our friends, those close to us.

“Today, some people are still lying critically ill in the hospital. Some children have become orphans as a result of what is happening around the country.

“So, it is a sombre celebration on the occasion of her 60th.

“For Nigeria, turning 60 is also a moment for reflection about all that we have been through and where we are,” he said

Tinubu added that he wished his wife to live longer and for her legacy to be great.

“My wish is for her to live longer, for her legacy to be great, be in good health and continue to enjoy the fruit of her labour.

“I pray she enjoys her children, grandchildren and for all of us to live in good health,” he said.

No directive to constitute disciplinary c’tee against us — Ojudu, others

Published

on

Sen. Babafemi Ojudu and 10 others have said that there was no directive from the National Caretaker Committee of All Progressives Congress (APC), mandating the Ekiti chapter of the party to constitute disciplinary committee against them.

Besides Ojudu, Ekiti APC affected members are, Oyetunde Ojo, a former governorship aspirant of the party, Dr Wole Oluyede, Ayo Ajibade, Femi Adeleye and Bunmi Ogunleye.

The rest are, Akin Akomolafe, Bamigboye Adegoroye, Olusoga Owoeye, Dele Afolabi, Toyin Oluwasola, and Ben Oguntuase.

NAN recalls that Mr Sam Oluwalana, Ekiti APC’s Director of Media and Publicity and a member of the committee, had on Sept. 15, said that the party had constituted a nine-man committee to query some party members.

He said that it was over alleged violation of NEC directive by the party members.

The 11 aggrieved members noted that the decision of the Ekiti APC to impose disciplinary measures against them and subsequent invitation were clear violation of their fundamental human rights to seek redress in court when aggrieved.

The affected members stated this in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee by their counsel, Chief Ademuyiwa Adeniyi, and a copy made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti.

The aggrieved APC chieftains explained that they would not be attending the committee’s invitation.

The aggrieved APC members, through their councel said “it is sub-judice in law with consequences, saying they would not get fair hearing considering comments from members of the committee and leaders of the party.

“The information at the disposal of our clients is contrary to your claim that the National Caretaker Committee of the APC directed the Ekiti chapter to set up Disciplinary committee to try them.

“Sir, looking at the composition of your committee, especially the position of one of your members, the Ekiti APC Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Sam Oluwalana, has already written the report of your committee while addressing newsmen on Tuesday, Sept.,15.

“He went to the extent of calling our clients recalcitrant. You will agree with us that we can not guarantee the impartiality of your Committee.

“Still on the issue of independence and impartiality of your Committee, our Clients have raised serious objection to the venue of your meeting.

“That the composition of your Committee is against the principles of Nemo Judex in causa Sual, that is, no one is judge in his own cause.

“This is one of the cardinal rules of Natural Justice that no person can judge a case in which they have an interest.

“Mr Paul Omotosho that constituted your Committee and to whom all your findings shall be reported to is a party to Suit No. /446/2020.

Adeniyi, however, said clients were ready for the progress, unity of the APC and genuine reconciliation toward putting an end to the crisis in the party.

Edo Polls: SDP congratulates Obaseki, commends INEC

Published

on

Social Democratic Party (SDP), has congratulated Gov. Godwin Obaseki on his victory at the just concluded Sept. 19, Edo Governorship Polls.

The National Chairman of SDP, Chief Supo Shonibare, sent the congratulatory message on Monday in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Alfa Mohammed.

Shonibare also commended the neutrality displayed by both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and other security operatives deployed for the election.

He said that the non-interference of the federal government in the entire electoral process was also commendable.

“In enabling the free and fair elections, we commend President Mohammadu Buhari for not interfering in the process through the various national security outfits whose operational responsibilities directives, functions and powers are vested in his office.

“This portends a good omen in the journey to strengthening institutions in our polity.

“We must begin to entrench institutions and processes that are greater than individual interests and Godfatherism.

“It is hoped that this will be the beginning of the strengthening of our electoral system and deepening democracy in the polity,” he said.

He noted that the electoral process would be further strengthened and more transparent when the Electoral Act as amended by the National Assembly is assented to by the President.

Shonibare lauded the Edo state leadership and members of SDP for aligning with the directives and advice of the elected National Executive Committee of the party to support Gov. Obaseki.

He also commended the formation of the rainbow coalition led by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and some APC stalwarts who exited the APC with Obaseki.

He said the coalition was the binding force that led to the victory of Obaseki and the change of status quo for the good people of Edo.
