He said this Thursday when presenting his committee’s 2022 budget report to the Senate Appropriation Committee.

“Ajaokuta Steel Company is one of the most vibrant sectors that has been left in deep lethargy.

“In addition, inadequate financing is one of the main problems in the sector. Not only that certain red and bureaucratic clinging within and around agencies, departments and ministries has stalled this much desired project.

“During the last two years, when the initiative to revive the company was presented, there has been no significant allocation to the company.

“With that, the long-awaited take-off or reactivation of the company may not take place except where there is a special fund. I would like to ask the president to passionately analyze this request, ”he said.

Al-Makura added: “We have spoken many times about the need to revive this company and I know for a fact that President Muhammadu Buhari is very passionate about making sure that before bowing, the company will be very effective and will drive the process forward. . of an adequate industrialization in the country ”.

On the ministry’s budget, Al-Makura appealed to the appropriation committee to consider ways and means of finding special funding for the ministry, otherwise the things that the ministry was expected to achieve might not be achievable.

“We found that the much desired growth in this sector may not be easily achievable without a very special assignment to the ministry.

“The President considers solid minerals among the sectors that will drive the diversification process. But given the negligible assignment to the ministry, such wishes, expectations may not easily be met, ”he said.

A committee member, Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC-Kogi) stated that the solid ore was key to Nigeria’s economic development.

“As a nation facing a large number of unemployed, this sector (Ajaokuta) is very important. It’s key; it will help the nation in terms of job creation and job opportunities, ”he said.

The chairman of the appropriation committee, Senator Jibrin Barau, said that “we know that a lot of money has been spent to achieve Ajaokuta and now it is in a state of decay, without being used.

“So it requires everyone’s participation to make sure we resurrect this important complex,” he said.
