AIG Jimeta assumed duty as AIG Zone 5 comprising Edo, Delta.

The Deputy Inspector General (AIG) of the Police, Lawan Jimeta, assumed his duties in Benin on Thursday as the new AIG, Zone 5, which includes the states of Edo and Delta.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that Jimeta replaced AIG Ahmad Abdurrahman who was reassigned to Police Academy (POLAD), Wudi, Kano State.

Speaking with him shortly after taking office, Jimeta said he would be ruthless with any official in the area who was seen as corrupt.

“I abhor corruption and therefore I will deal decisively with any officer who is corrupt or perceived to be corrupt.

“So officers in the area are expected to wake up to their duties, be diligent and also serve the public humanely.

“They should prevent corruption in whatever form it takes and ensure that they respect human rights, as well as being professional in their conduct,” he said.

The AIG said Edo and Delta states were familiar terrain for him, having previously served in Edo as Police Commissioner.

He added that his tenure in the state as a former police commissioner had exposed him to the terrain, the challenges and how best to address the challenges.

The AIG assured that it would use the experience accumulated at that time to address the security problems in the area.

Jimeta also said that he will be guided by the Police Inspector General, Usman Álcali, and will rely on them to ensure that the objectives are achieved.

In addition, he promised to work in harmony with the police commissioners in the area to ensure that crime and criminality are contained in the area.

In his statements, AIG Ahmad Abdurrahman, who handed over command to Jimeta, said that it was generally normal for the force to move officers from one place to another in the shortest time possible.

According to him, we are regiments, we are men of the discipline force, so when they instruct you, you obey.

He explained that his redeployment was simply an exchange of offices between him and the new AIG, Jimeta, and called on the citizens of the two states to cooperate with the new AIG.

“He is an experienced and very disciplined officer, and I know that in the shortest possible time people in the area will get the good leadership that they deserve and have been longing for,” Abdurrahman said.

reports that Jimeta served as CP Edo, from November 2019 to June 2020, CP Bauchi from June 2020 to March 2021, Commander POLAD, Wudi, Kano State from March 2021, prior to his current redeployment as AIG, zone 5.
