Ahmed Idris Don Talk Say EFCC Withholding Court Statements

Abuja, Nigeria – Former Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, don accuse the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) say dem no bring all di statements wey him talk during dem investigation on di alleged N109 billion fraud case. Idris make dis statement on Wednesday during trial wey dey happen for di Federal Capital Territory High Court.

Di trial within trial, na special legal process wey dem use to find out if di statement wey person make na voluntary one. Idris, wey dey face 14 counts including theft and fraud, don make him plea of not guilty since di matter start. Him claim say di EFCC only bring 13 out of di 16 statements wey him don submit, leaving out three statements wey go show di involvement of government officials and agencies in di alleged fraud.

“I be surprised say dem no bring all di statements to court. Di ones wey dem bring no tell di full story,” Idris talk. Him also add say, “Di Minister of Finance and odas dey involve for di consultancy wey dem dey talk about.”

During di cross-examination, his lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), question di way wey di EFCC bring di evidence, arguing say di selective nature fit deny him client fair hearing. Idris insist sey he make di statements without him lawyer present and under duress, adding say none of di statements wey he write dem video-record.

Di judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu, don adjourn di matter go July 17 for cross-examination as di prosecution go respond to di claims of coercion wey Idris dey make. Dis case don develop plenty layers, as di EFCC don accuse Idris and oda defendants say dem dey use public money to buy properties across di country.

Idris no forget to maintain sey he dey innocent, saying say di investigation no carry correct procedure. E don call for EFCC to bring di full record of di interactions wey happen between dem and him.
