“When we look around us, we see different people making their contributions to society.

We know that Africa will be Africa if we harness our agricultural value and move up the value chain.

A man has risen because of his inspiration, his motivation and his making us believe with a vision and a strategy that we can achieve it,” said UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana Charles Abani, who announced the award during a ceremony held October 1st.

in Accra, Ghana.

As Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture from 2011 to 2015, Adesina is credited with transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector in four years.

Under her watch, Nigeria ended 40 years of corruption in the fertilizer sector by developing and implementing an innovative e-wallet system, which directly provided farmers with large-scale subsidized agricultural inputs using their mobile phones.

In the first four years of its launch, this electronic wallet system reached 15 million farmers.

Led by Adesina, the African Development Bank Group achieved the highest capital increase since its inception in 1964.

On October 31, 2019, shareholders from 80 member countries raised the overall capital of $93 billion to the historical figure of 208,000 million dollars.

Adesina has also led other achievements, such as the Bank’s bold and swift response to the Covid-19 pandemic with the launch of a historic $3 billion Covid-19 Social Bond, followed by a Crisis Response Facility of up to $3 billion.

10 billion.

In May this year, the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group approved a US$1.5 billion Emergency Food Production Fund to help address the global food crisis caused by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The funds will help 20 million African farmers produce an additional 38 million metric tons of food to address growing fears of famine and food insecurity on the continent.

In announcing the Man of the Year (Africa) award, EMY recognized Dr. Adesina’s contribution as “a bold reformer” and “a world-renowned development economist and agricultural development expert, with over 30 years of development experience.”

Since 2016, EMY Africa has celebrated the best achievements of men in local industry, community, culture and public service.

Past winners of the EMY Africa Awards have been inspiring men with successful or promising careers who have made significant contributions to life in African communities.

Receiving the award on behalf of Dr. Adesina, Ghana African Development Bank Country Manager, Eyerusalem Fasika, thanked the EMY team and all partners for the recognition.
