AFCON 2021: Garoua fans adopt Super Eagles, crave Nigeria-Cameroon final

Most of the residents of Garoua (Northern Cameroon) have adopted the Super Eagles as their team in the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that the Eagles play all their Group D games in Garoua and will remain in the city for the next round, if they top their group at all.

A correspondent in Garoua reports that most football fans have openly declared their support for the Nigerian Super Eagles.

In separate interviews with , they described the Eagles as a formidable team that could make it all the way to the finals of the competition.

However, they said a fitting end to AFCON 2021 will be Nigeria taking on Cameroon in a highly anticipated final on February 6.

Saidu Moussa, a small trader, said he supported the Super Eagles because of the way they played against Egypt, despite the presence of Mohammed Salah in the North African team.

“Nigeria is a very strong team, I enjoyed the way they beat Egypt despite the presence of Mo Sallah.

“I am rooting for Nigeria until the final,” he said.

Abdoulaye Yaya, a commercial motorcyclist who had his bike decked out in the colors of the Nigerian and Cameroonian flags, said the Super Eagles were one of the strongest teams in the competition.

He said it was a great privilege for the Garoua fans to see the Super Eagles stars they see on television play in their new stadium.

“I like the Nigerian Super Eagles, you guys have a lot of great players playing in England, Spain and Italy.

“I think Nigeria can go very far in this AFCON and possibly face Cameroon in the final, that’s my prayer,” he said.

Aminatu Bouba said that he loves Nigeria for its style of play, as well as the fact that he has cousins ​​in Adamawa, Nigeria.

“Nigeria is my second country, so I want them to win,” he said in Hausa.

reports that the Super Eagles currently lead Group D with three points, followed by Guinea-Bissau with one point each and Egypt with no points, after the opening games in Garoua.
