Access Bank Don Buy National Bank of Kenya, E Be Big Deal!

City, Nigeria – As we dey waka through the financial jungle, Access Bank don flex their muscles again! Dem don finally complete the acquisition of National Bank of Kenya (NBK) from KCB Group. This one no be small matter o, as the deal don turn Access Bank into proper big man for East Africa market.

Chai! It all started back in March 2024 when dem first announce the move. But no be easy street as dem face plenty regulatory wahala before finally getting the green light. Now, NBK don officially join Access Bank family, making Access Bank the owner of all 77 bank branches wey NBK get for Kenya.

Roosevelt Ogbonna, wey be the Managing Director for Access Bank, gree say this acquisition na major achievement. E talk say, “Kenya dey heart of regional commerce, and with NBK onboard, we go fit provide high-impact banking solutions to everybody, from common man to big-time businesses and even government.” E sweet for mouth!

Access Bank don already make dem mark for Kenya when dem buy Transnational Bank back for 2020, but this NBK acquisition na next level business. Before this deal, dem get only 0.2% market share for Kenya. Now, na 1.9%! E be like say dem dey ready to chop the market well well and show dem say “We dey here to stay!”

As dem dey settle in, Ogbonna also yarn about wetin dis deal mean for the future, sey dem go blend both banks’ systems and products to create something wey go sweet for customers. Talk of merging cultures and strategies! Na serious business dem dey do.

But no be only sweet talk o, NBK don also dey face some challenges on top financial matters before this deal. Dem recently report say their profit drop by 48.8% in the March quarter compared to last year. Na wetin dem go fit solve now wey Access Bank don step in with their big pockets and expertise.

Of course, dis acquisition get kasala for the image wey Access Bank don dey build. Dem go fit tap into NBK’s strong ties with Kenya’s public sector. This means dem no just dey acquire branches, but also credibility with people wey dey work for government and other sectors.

For Access Bank, dis na only about growing big; e dey strategic as dey wan use Kenya as launch pad for more opportunities across East Africa, especially as African Continental Free Trade Agreement dey enter ground. E be like say dem sabi wetin dem dey do!

No forget say, this move still dey come after some tough negotiations. Before now, Access Bank try to buy Sidian Bank, but dem fall back when dem no gree on some terms. But sha, with NBK in their bag, dem don prove say dem fit actually make this kind big deal work.
