2023: Abia ADP elects ex-LG Chair as guber candidate
Chibuike Jonas
Mr Chibuike Jonas, a one-time Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area (LGA) of Abia has emerged the Action Democratic Party’s (ADP) governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections.

Jonas was elected unopposed at the party’s delegates’ congress that took place in Umuahia on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the congress was attended by 16 delegates elected from the 17 LGAs.

Deputy Chairman
The state Deputy Chairman of the party, Chief Njoku Dickson, moved the motion for Jonas election, while Dr Jude Ohuche seconded it.
Returning Officer
The Returning Officer for the exercise, Mr. Benjamin Arisa, declared him the winner, after a voting voice by the delegates.
In an acceptance speech, the governorship hopeful said that he joined the race “to make a clear difference in the governance of Abia”.
He said: “Those who stay here know that our state has been badly managed.
“We are faced with the problems of bad roads as well as non-payment of salaries and pensions.
“But I’m here to bring forth right development in the state.
“I did it as an LG chairman when I started and completed 52 projects in one year and eight months.
“All we require is prayers and hard work to win the election in order to take Abia to the future we all deserve.”
Jonas, therefore, appealed to the party members to take the message to every nook and cranny of Abia “to convince the electorate to vote ADP into power in 2023”.
