Nigeria dey face serious challenges when it come to the safe transportation of petrol, and dis issue don become a major concern for both the government and the citizens.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo recently talk about the importance of ensuring safe transportation of petrol, especially in the face of current insecurity in the country. According to him, the insecurity in Nigeria today is worse than during his tenure, and it affects many aspects of life, including the transportation of petroleum products.
Ordinarily, petrol and other petroleum products supposed to be transported through pipelines to depots closer to consumers. However, many of Nigeria’s pipelines have been vandalized or are not functioning properly, forcing the reliance on road transportation. This method is not only risky but also prone to accidents and theft.
To address this, there is a need for a robust security framework that includes community policing. Obasanjo emphasized that community policing, where members of communities know their neighbours, is crucial for identifying and addressing security threats within communities. This approach could help in reducing the spate of crimes and ensuring safer transportation routes.
Additionally, investing in the rehabilitation and expansion of the pipeline network could significantly reduce the risks associated with road transportation. This would also align with the need to prioritize the security of lives and properties across the country.
In summary, ensuring safe transportation of petrol in Nigeria requires a multi-faceted approach that includes enhancing security measures, rehabilitating pipelines, and adopting community policing strategies.
