Umahi talk say no foul play for nurse death, warn against politicisation

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, don dismiss any “foul play” for the death of Nurse Mary Habila, and warn against politicisation of the matter.

Umahi, wey speak for press conference for Abuja on Thursday, say both of them don work together for three years.

“What baffles me for this country na say everything become opportunity. There is guest house where she and the second medical person stay, and that one dey far from where I stay. Does e mean say if, God forbid, somebody die for Ministry of Works, the minister must dey accountable? Na so dem dey talk? Dem dey say somebody no fit die? Dem don check the medical records of the lady? Dem know say this lady be like daughter to me?”

“Everything dey go into politics. But wetin I tell people na, be careful; life dey spiritual. When you want use the unfortunate death of a young girl to play politics, if we get hand for the killings, make e follow us for our families. But if we no get hand and you dey jump inside, behold, this na David—I be man of full grace. You no fit tackle me anyhow and go free. So be careful when you want use the death of that young lady—one of my best workers, a nurse, and federal staff.”

The minister say Mary be “like daughter” to am and provide insight into her last moments.

“The lady for question be like daughter to me. She don stay with me for three years. She be staff of federal medical university. She be nurse, no be physiotherapist. Her family and my family be like one, and she get her medical records for Turkish Hospital, with her treatments paid for by us,” the former governor of Ebonyi tok.

“She speak to her boyfriend at the hour of her death, complaining say she dey bleed from nose. The boyfriend say, ‘No, you must report am. See, e don stop. He then add, ‘Listen, I no go continue this conversation, since you dey bleed, e go increase the bleeding.’”

“She tell her boyfriend make e no cut the call, but e cut the call anyway. Three minutes later, the boyfriend call again, but she no dey respond. Even for morning, she don tell her boyfriend say she go take bath. Because she lock her door, when dem discover her for morning, dem must break the door. Dem find her, and the tap still dey run.”

Habila na part of medical team wey dey accompany Umahi to im hometown for Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, where dem allegedly find her dead inside im residential compound.

Meanwhile, Tanko Habila, father of the late Miss Mary Habila, don petition the Inspector General of Police (IGP), demanding release of her remains for burial.

Habila, wey im wife, other family members and their lawyers accompany, address press after dem submit the petition at Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Friday.

According to am, the family no dey interested for autopsy. E say: “As we dey stand here, somebody fit fall and die. E don happen. All we want na her body to bury.”
