Former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar, don finally get bail. Na Federal Capital Territory High Court for Maitama, Abuja grant am bail for the sum of N100 million.
Justice Peter Kekemeke wey preside over the matter give the ruling. E say the defendant must provide one surety for the same amount, and the surety must get valid Certificate of Occupancy.
EFCC don arraign Umar for four-count charge wey border on allegedly conferring undue advantage on himself while e dey serve as CCT Chairman. But Umar plead not guilty to all the charges.
Earlier, the counsel to the defendant ask the court to grant Umar bail on liberal terms. E argue say the man don already get administrative bail from EFCC and never run away. The counsel also tell court say Umar always honour EFCC invitations during investigation.
But prosecution oppose the application, saying the defendant na flight risk and fit interfere with prosecution witnesses. Some of those witnesses work under am during im tenure as CCT Chairman.
Justice Kekemeke for im ruling hold say prosecution fail to prove say Umar likely to jump bail or interfere with witnesses. So the court grant the bail application.
The court adjourn further hearing for the case until October 29, 2026. For now, Umar go remain for Kuje Custodial Centre, waiting to fulfill im bail conditions.
