Police don announce movement restriction for Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of security measures for the conduct of the local government elections. The command say the restriction na to ensure peaceful, orderly, and secure electoral process across the state and go be enforced in collaboration with other security agencies.
For a statement wey dem issue on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Eno Ikoedem, dem say all vehicular and human movement go be prohibited during the period. However, the police say officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), accredited election observers, duly accredited media personnel, security agencies, emergency responders, and other essential service providers on election duty go be exempted from the directive.
According to the police, security personnel don dey strategically deployed across the 18 local government areas of the state to enforce the restriction, protect voters, electoral officials, and sensitive materials, and prevent any breakdown of law and order. The command warn say anybody wey dem catch violating the movement restriction or engaging in acts wey fit disrupt the electoral process go be arrested and prosecuted according to law.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police for Edo, Monday Agbonika, reassure residents say adequate security arrangements don dey put in place to safeguard the election and urge eligible voters to conduct themselves peacefully while exercising their civic responsibility in line with the guidelines wey the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission issue. He reaffirm the command’s commitment to ensure say the local government elections go conduct for free, fair, peaceful and credible atmosphere.
