Di Visa Waiver Program na program wey allow citizens of some countries to travel to US for tourism or business for up to 90 days without visa. But before dem travel, dem must get approval through Electronic System for Travel Authorization, wey dem dey call ESTA.
According to US government, changes wey dem introduce under di Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 mean say some travelers wey suppose qualify for visa-free entry now go need to apply for US visa instead.
Di affected countries include North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. Anybody wey be citizen of Visa Waiver Program country and don travel to or stay for any of these countries on or after March 1, 2011, no fit use visa-free entry again.
But there be small exceptions for people wey travel for diplomatic or military purposes for di service of a Visa Waiver Program country.
Also, for Cuba, any traveler wey don visit or stay there on or after January 12, 2021 no fit use visa-free entry, except for limited diplomatic or military cases.
US also say citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries wey get dual citizenship with any of these affected countries must obtain visa before traveling.
Di updated guidance mean say affected travelers, even if dem be citizens of countries wey dey part of di Visa Waiver Program, must apply for visitor visa through US embassy or consulate before entering United States.
US government add say travelers wey still qualify for di Visa Waiver Program must get valid ESTA approval before departure and meet all other program requirements, including say dem no go stay more than 90 days for tourism or business.
