Coin collectors go soon get new thing to dey look for. The United States Mint announce June 23 say dem go produce 250,000 semiquincentennial 2026 Declaration of Independence quarters wey get special “July 4th” privy mark to celebrate America 250th anniversary.
The quarter na one of five new quarter-dollar designs for 2026. The obverse side get Thomas Jefferson, author of Declaration of Independence and third president of United States, plus inscriptions “E Pluribus Unum,” “In God We Trust,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” The reverse side show Liberty Bell dey ring, with bell crack visible. Inscriptions for that side include “The Declaration of Independence,” “Quarter Dollar,” “Liberty” and “United States of America.”
The special quarters go be available to banks and financial institutions nationwide in time for Fourth of July. The United States Mint say dem go distribute am through normal channels.
Other coins wey dey mint for the occasion include dime wey get face of Liberty, nickel with Thomas Jefferson and “1776 ∽ 2026” inscription, Liberty half dollar and 1776 ∽ 2026 penny. The Mint reveal the coin designs last December.
Ventris C. Gibson, director of United States Mint, say the coin designs “depict the story of America journey toward a ‘more perfect union,’ and celebrate America defining ideals of liberty.” Gibson add: “We hope to offer each American the opportunity to hold our nation storied 250 years of history in the palms of our hands as we Connect America through Coins.”
Earlier for 2026, the Mayflower Compact Quarter go into circulation in January, wey feature two Pilgrims embracing, a man and a woman, under banner wey read “E Pluribus Unum.” The Revolutionary War Quarter go into circulation in March, wey feature George Washington during Revolutionary War. The United States Constitution Quarter get portrait of James Madison and never go into circulation, while Gettysburg Address Quarter, also not yet in circulation, get Abraham Lincoln on front, with two clasped hands on back and inscription “A New Nation Conceived in Liberty.”
