Kwara declare Tuesday public holiday for Hijra New Year

Kwara State Government don announce Tuesday, June 16, as public holiday for the state to celebrate di 1448 New Hijra Year, wey be di Islamic New Year.

For statement wey dem release on Monday, di Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, tok say Tuesday na di first day of Muharram (1448), wey be di first Islamic lunar month.

Di state government urge Muslims to reflect on di importance of di month, not just for Muslim community but for di whole human community.

“Hijrah (di migration of di Holy Prophet Muhammad) remind di world of di evergreen value of tolerance, common humanity, and di right of every person to their legitimate aspirations — either for matters of faith or mundane matters as long as dem no hurt others,” part of di statement read.

“As we commemorate di new Hijrah Year, His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, pray say God bless every home, restore peace to our land, and give us di strength to do right by every person.”

TVC News Online report say Oyo earlier declare Tuesday work-free to commemorate di Islamic New Year.
