Muyiwa Adekeye, wey be media adviser to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, don accuse the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of denying im principal access to medical care while for custody.
Adekeye, for a statement, say El-Rufai wey don complain of itchy eyes, request to go hospital to check im condition, but the request dem turn down by ICPC officials.
According to the aide, the former governor dem take am to eye clinic on June 4, but im eyes condition worsen recent, a situation wey Adekeye say don raise concern among El-Rufai family.
“ICPC officials deny requests by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to see doctor. He don complain about im eyes wey dey visibly swollen, reddish and itchy. Im family draw the attention of the operatives to im condition and im request for hospital visit to check im condition.
“Two ICPC officials check and see the condition of im eyes. This na expected step to prompt either hospital check or make dem summon doctor to attend to am.”
Adekeye further allege say the commission fail to relay El-Rufai position accurately to im family.
“However, no medical attention dem arrange. Rather one Henry, wey dem believe dem second am to ICPC from another agency, falsely inform a family member say El Rufai no wish to see doctor. Henry dem vigorously challenge by a family member for this false, insensitive and absurd claim.
“This no be the first time wey dem go attempt by ICPC officials to attribute to Mallam wetin he no tell dem.
“Mallam dem take am to eye clinic on Thursday, 4 June, but im eyes don get worse overnight, dey put am for great discomfort and dey alarm the wives wey visit am today.”
He criticise the commission for allegedly violating El-Rufai rights despite court order wey im lawyers obtain to enable am access medical care, noting say no government agency suppose deny person wey dey im custody access to medical healthcare.
“The persistent problem with im eyes during im time for custody don lead Mallam counsels to obtain court order to enable am access to im doctors and medical treatment. Despite this, the ICPC dey persist to treat am as if he no get rights and no deserve duty of care while for their custody.
“No agency of the government dem allow to dey indifferent to the medical condition of person wey dey their custody. The ICPC must respect human rights of persons wey dey their custody, obey court orders and allow dem access to the medical treatment wey dem require.”
The family of the former governor earlier for May accuse ICPC of denying am access to medical care and food deliveries while for custody. For a statement, the family say El-Rufai personal doctor visit ICPC headquarters to discuss the outcome of some medical tests wey dem conduct on the former governor. However, officials of the commission allegedly prevent the doctor from seeing am, dey insist say written approval from ICPC chairman required.
The family describe the action as direct violation of court order and attack on im fundamental rights. The agency don deny the allegations.
