Prime Video don drop new series wey dey call Spider-Noir, and e be like say Marvel dey try something different. The show take style from 1940s hard-boiled films, with black and white cinematography, plenty smoke, and shady dames. But e still be superhero story for inside.
Nicolas Cage play Ben Reilly, one spider-themed detective wey don retire from being The Spider after he fail save the woman wey he love. Now he dey work as private investigator for New York during the Great Depression. The whole series dey available for both black and white and colour, but some people dey argue say colourising spoil the noir feel.
The plot start when Reilly get hired to find one man called Addison, wey fit turn into human torch. When he find am, another detective shoot Addison, and Reilly begin wonder who dey behind all this. Later, one shady dame wey be Cat Hardy, played by Li Jun Li, hire Reilly to find her bodyguard Flint Marko, wey fit turn into sand. So Reilly enter deeper into web of danger.
At the centre of everything na Silvermane, played by Brendan Gleeson, one gangster wey don take over New York for five years. He dey control police and politicians, and somebody try burn down him mansion. The show get plenty twists and characters, but e move fast and e dey fun.
Cage fans go enjoy am, but even those wey no like am fit find something to like because the style dey hide him usual antics. The cast also include Karen Rodriguez as sassy secretary Janet, and Lamorne Morris as newshound Robbie Robertson. The script get sharp dialogue and witty banter, though sometimes e go into screwball comedy for man-woman talk.
If the show no make bishop kick hole for stained glass window, e go at least make am think about am.
