Apple don release iOS 26.5.1 with encrypted RCS for iPhone

Apple don finally drop the new iOS 26.5.1 update for iPhone, and e get one big feature wey people don dey wait for long time: end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging. This update dey come after weeks of beta testing, and e dey available for all iPhone from 2019, including iPhone 11 series and later, plus iPhone SE second and third generation, and the latest iPhone 17 models.

To get the update, you just go to Settings app, select General, then Software Update, and tap Download and Install. My own download for iPhone 17 Pro Max na around 3GB, and e install finish for about 25 minutes. But if you still dey use older iOS like iOS 18, your download go bigger and take longer time.

Now, the main thing wey people dey happy about na the encrypted RCS messaging. This feature go finally make messages between iPhone and Android phones secure, with end-to-end encryption. E still dey beta, and e require carrier support, but when e work, you go see lock icon for your RCS chats to show say e dey encrypted. Apple and Google don work together for this cross-industry effort to replace old SMS with more secure messaging.

But make I tell you, the new Siri wey many people hope for no dey here o. Analysts say the more personalized Siri go come with iOS 27 wey Apple go announce for WWDC on June 8. So if you be Siri lover, you still dey wait small.

Apart from RCS, the update get other things. There be new Pride Luminance wallpaper wey dey refract different colors dynamically. For Maps, you go see Suggested Places wey dey recommend trending spots near you based on your recent searches. Also, Apple don fix more than 50 security issues, including serious ones for Kernel and WebKit. Some of these problems fit allow malicious app to escape sandbox, but Apple say nobody don use am for real world yet.

For people wey dey Europe, the update get special features because of EU Digital Markets Act. Now, third-party wearables fit access things wey before na only Apple Watch and AirPods get. For example, third-party earbuds fit use proximity pairing like AirPods, and third-party smartwatches fit receive notifications from iPhone. Live Activities from iPhone fit show for third-party wearables too.

This update na big deal for messaging security, and e show say Apple dey take privacy serious. But if you expect new Siri, you go wait till June.
