Na big gist dey ground as Nigeria don reduce how dem dey import petrol by 85 percent. For six months wey just pass, Naija people don use 10.2 billion litres of fuel, but now, Dangote Refinery dey supply plenty of am from inside our country.
Dis na serious change for our oil and gas sector. Before now, even though Naija na Africa biggest oil producer, we dey depend on Europe and Middle East refineries to get fuel. But dat era don finish. Dangote Refinery alone dey supply more than half of wetin dey whole country need.
For March 2026, di refinery production still strong. Dem dey manage how dem dey share di fuel inside Nigeria to match wetin people dey use. As di refinery work dey improve, NMDPRA don cut import licenses well well.
For March 2026, almost all fuel wey Nigerians use come from inside Naija. Import don reduce serious. Di biggest drop happen between December 2025 and February 2026.
Di 85 percent cut in import mean logistics don change big time. NMDPRA fact sheets show say our distribution network wey get over 25,000 tanker trucks now dey load from local depots. Dem no dey wait again for ships wey dey bring imported fuel from sea.
Our petroleum network get over 22,681 filling stations. Dis new arrangement don reduce “dead time” wey dem dey experience before when dem dey wait for mother vessels to discharge imported products for coastal ports.
But even as Dangote Refinery dey make progress, government refineries for Port Harcourt and Warri still dey shutdown. Di private refinery dey cover di gap wey dem leave.
Di only other local refineries wey dey contribute na modular ones like Waltersmith and Aradel. But dem dey focus more on diesel and kerosene production. Dat one make Dangote share of petrol market even more important for our energy security.
Di stability for gas supply, combined with refinery petrol output, show say Nigeria dey move toward better energy mix. Analysis show say Naija dey close to become net exporter of refined petroleum products for first time for our history.
For January 2026, di refinery market share dey rise fast. Dis local supply don bring stability to Nigerian economy wey we need well well.
