Ogun State give workers one day off weekly plus N10,000 transport allowance

Ogun State Government don approve one day off every week plus N10,000 monthly transport allowance for all workers for the state. This new policy na to help civil servants wey dey suffer from high transport cost and economic wahala.

Governor Dapo Abiodun administration approve this arrangement wey go start from April 2026. E go run for three months first before dem go review am. The idea na to reduce how workers dey suffer from fuel subsidy removal wey don make transport cost skyrocket.

For many workers, money wey dem dey spend for transport don increase well well. E dey chop deep into their salary wey already tight. State officials say this new measures go help cushion the effect by reducing how many days workers dey go work and give them direct money for transport.

Under this arrangement, civil servants wey qualify go get one special day off every week. This mean dem go dey work for office four days instead of five days. But to make sure government work no suffer, ministries, departments, and agencies don get instruction to spread the days off among staff.

This one go make sure government offices remain open throughout the week. E no go affect service delivery to the public. The arrangement go work in such way say some staff go dey available every working day.

But not all workers go enjoy this weekly day off. Some important categories of workers no go get the break. These include health workers, security personnel, and emergency service providers. These ones dey essential for daily operations.

Even though these groups no go get the weekly break, dem go still collect the N10,000 monthly transport allowance. Government sources describe this initiative as short-term intervention to help workers face ongoing economic challenges.

The three-month timeline starting from April 2026 show say government want to check how e work first before dem decide whether to continue am, change am, or stop am. This na temporary measure to see wetin go happen.

Ogun decision resemble wetin other state governments don do to reduce harsh effects of economic reforms on workers. For example, for neighbouring Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde recently approve N10,000 monthly transport allowance for civil servants too.

This one na palliative measure to reduce burden of rising fuel prices and transport costs. As inflation and transport costs continue to rise, state governments dey step in with support measures wey dey target workers directly.

The economic pressure on Nigerians don increase since dem remove fuel subsidies. Transportation costs don jump up, and many workers dey find am hard to cope. This policy na one way state government dey try to help their workers survive this period.

Government offices across Ogun State go need to arrange their staff schedule well to accommodate this new policy. Each ministry, department, and agency go decide how dem go share the days off among their workers.

The transport allowance of N10,000 go come every month to help workers with their commuting expenses. This cash support combined with the reduced work days go help workers manage their finances better during this tough time.
