FA Cup semi-final draw don set, Chelsea go face Leeds, Man City meet Southampton

The draw for the semi-finals of the FA Cup was conducted on Sunday evening, setting up two exciting fixtures as teams battle for a place in the final. In the first semi-final, Chelsea FC will take on Leeds United. Chelsea booked their spot in emphatic fashion, thrashing Port Vale 7-0 at Stamford Bridge. Leeds, on the other hand, had to dig deep, overcoming Premier League rivals West Ham United via a penalty shootout.

The second semi-final will see defending champions Manchester City go head-to-head with Southampton FC at Wembley. City head into the clash in dominant form after a resounding 4-0 victory over Liverpool FC, and will be aiming to secure their eighth FA Cup title. Southampton, however, will be no pushovers, having knocked out Arsenal FC to reach this stage of the competition.

Naija News reports that both semi-final matches are scheduled to take place on April 25 and 26, promising a thrilling weekend of cup football as the race to lift one of England’s most prestigious trophies heats up.

Leeds United’s journey to the semi-final was nothing short of dramatic. Their quarter-final clash with West Ham United at the London Stadium was a proper rollercoaster. The Whites took an early lead through Tanaka, whose deflected strike bounced in off the bar. They doubled their advantage in the second half when Calvert-Lewin buried a penalty.

West Ham looked dead and buried, but they refused to lie down. Fernandes pulled one back, then Disasi equalized with a brilliant finish in stoppage time. The match went to extra-time, and eventually penalties. Lucas Perri emerged as the hero for Leeds, saving two spot-kicks to send his team through 4-2 in the shootout.

For Chelsea, their path was more straightforward. They demolished Port Vale 7-0, showing the kind of ruthless form that makes them favorites. Manchester City were equally impressive, putting four past Liverpool without reply. Southampton’s victory over Arsenal was a proper upset—the Saints showing they can mix it with the big boys.

The semi-final draw means we’re guaranteed at least one team from outside the Premier League’s traditional ā€˜big six’ in the final. Leeds, back in the semis after 39 years, will fancy their chances against Chelsea. Southampton, meanwhile, have already proven they can slay giants.

Wembley Stadium will host both matches, with one fixture on Saturday and the other on Sunday. Fans across Naija and the world can catch the action on ESPN and ESPN+ for those in the US, while other broadcasters will show it globally. The stage is set for a proper football feast.

Looking back at the quarter-finals, there were other notable results. Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Liverpool was a statement. Chelsea’s seven-goal thrashing of Port Vale showed their attacking firepower. Southampton’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal was a tactical masterclass. And Leeds’ epic penalty shootout win over West Ham will be talked about for years.

The FA Cup has always been about magic and drama, and this year’s edition is delivering in spades. From Port Vale’s fairytale run to Leeds’ long-awaited return to the semis, the competition has reminded everyone why it remains so special. The semi-finals promise more of the same—heart, passion, and unforgettable moments.

As the teams prepare for Wembley, the focus will be on tactics, fitness, and nerve. Chelsea will rely on their experience and squad depth. Leeds will bank on their momentum and fighting spirit. Manchester City will aim to assert their dominance. Southampton will hope to spring another surprise. One thing is certain: the road to FA Cup glory is never easy, but for these four teams, the dream is still alive.
