Nollywood actress Damilola Oni don open mouth talk about how men dey disturb her for social media. The matter don cause plenty yarn for entertainment circle as the actress yarn her own side of the story during interview with Oyinmomo TV.
According to wetin Oni talk, her Instagram direct messages dey always full with inappropriate content from male followers. She say early morning when she open her phone, men go don send her their manhood photos with messages wey dey talk say “I am everything you need baby.” The actress describe am as disturbing routine wey she dey face regularly.
“All sorts of dicks dey my DM,” Oni yarn with serious face. “Some people go even tell me say dem watch me for TV this morning and dem use me masturbate. Na real wahala I dey see for that social media matter.”
The actress wey get curvy figure talk say the harassment dey happen because of her body type. She mention say even elderly men dey among those wey dey send her explicit messages. The whole thing don make her to dey careful how she dey use social media these days.
Aside from the online wahala, Oni also yarn about one professional challenge wey she face for Nollywood. She talk about how one senior colleague refuse to work with her for movie set. According to her story, she suppose play lead role for one film but the colleague give producer ultimatum.
“Person tell me say him no fit work with me and I never offend the person,” Oni explain. “I suppose dey work as lead role by now. The producer ask me if I offend certain person, I talk say no. The person say make producer choose between me and him, and producer no fit choose me over him.”
After waiting for hours on set, the producer offer her minor role with about five scenes. But Oni talk say she no gree vex because she no want make people think say na defeat. “Nobody fit send me comot from this industry,” she declare with strong voice.
Oni wey dey single currently also talk about how entertainment industry dey work. She say sometimes na the loud people dey excel pass the talented ones. “From time, the loud ones excel more than the talented. You have to spice it up because that’s what will make you relevant,” she yarn.
The actress talk say many talented people wey suppose blow no dey get attention wey dem deserve. “People that are supposed to excel and become famous are not the ones we hear about,” Oni add with small sadness for her voice.
Despite all the challenges, Damilola Oni still dey determined to grow for the industry. She talk say the sky big enough for everybody to fly. Her resilience dey show say she no be person wey dey give up easily.
For earlier interview, the actress don talk about how her background as linguist help her career. She say understanding language help her navigate the industry better and express herself well. “Being a linguist has really helped in shaping my career,” Oni yarn.
She explain say for entertainment industry, appearance and quality of work matter. “When it comes to appearance, you can only do so much; but what you say really matters,” the actress talk. “Being a linguist helps me know what I want to say, how I want to say it, the diplomacy needed in communication, and the right level of emotion to attach to my words.”
Oni also show her passion for Yoruba culture during the interview. She describe Yoruba culture as very rich and deep. “You can explore it all your life and still not get to the end,” she talk with excitement. “My passion for Yoruba culture has truly driven me and I think the world needs to see that.”
About Nollywood films wey dey come out for YouTube, Oni talk say the platform give actors opportunity to reach wider audiences. She say Nigerian actors wey dey turn to YouTube dey do good thing because traditional industry barriers no dey there.
“Whatever career path one chooses, it is already saturated,” Oni yarn. “Nigerian actors turning to YouTube to reach wider audiences is a good thing.”
