England coach Thomas Tuchel don talk say Ben White go clear air with senior players wey dey for 2022 World Cup squad after him return to international football. The 28-year-old Arsenal right-back wey dem recall this week no play for England since he leave Qatar tournament for 2022, and Tuchel say him dey give White second chance.
Tuchel talk for press conference say White no want yarn about wetin happen for Qatar, but the coach say him believe say the player deserve opportunity to return. “If you believe am or not, I no hear story about am,” Tuchel yarn. “I ask am and he no want talk about am. I no want know about am because I think say he deserve second chance. I want give am second chance.”
The coach add say White don begin explain to teammates wey dey for Qatar wetin happen. “I no sure if ‘apologise’ na the correct word, but maybe just to clear air with players wey dey there, I think say he don do am, and go do am with majority of players wey dey come now,” Tuchel talk. “I no even know if he do anything wrong or wetin exactly happen. But explanation among players wey dey there, to clear air, dey in progress.”
White return come after Jarell Quansah withdraw because of injury, and Tuchel say the player show happiness to dey back. “The reaction to him call-up dey very positive,” Tuchel yarn. “Within seconds, na very positive and emotional reaction from am. He make am very clear how happy he dey to dey back. This na wetin he don show for these last days.”
For fan reaction, Tuchel talk say him hope say people go support White. “Support, because he dey play for England and we dey play for positive moment,” the coach explain. “We go get some new players for pitch so I hope say everybody fit support. I fit imagine say some strong opinions dey outside, but nobody dey camp wey don make the strongest opinions, so yeah, he deserve second chance.”
Tuchel also talk about Harry Maguire situation after the Manchester United defender get 15-month suspended jail sentence from Greek court. “I think say no go get issues,” Tuchel talk about Maguire travel to USA if dem select am. “This na my last understanding of the matter. I trust the people wey tell me that.”
For another England selection matter, Tuchel respond to Trent Alexander-Arnold social media post after dem no include the Real Madrid defender for squad. Alexander-Arnold post caption say “Madrid and nothing else” after him snub, but Tuchel no comment much about am. “As response to no dey nominated? Fair enough, fair enough,” Tuchel talk.
The coach explain say England don create different game model wey no include Alexander-Arnold profile. “I think say na very hard decision wey we take, no doubt about him talent, no doubt about him career and wetin he fit give teams,” Tuchel yarn. “We create slightly different game model when he no dey camp for September, October and November. Na built off intensity, positivity, building for profile of right full-back, overlaps, underlaps, na different profile of player wey dey with us and perform so well.”
Tuchel add say Alexander-Arnold still dey on long list for World Cup selection. “He should’ve deserved second chance, maybe, I dey aware of that,” the coach talk. “Na hard decision, he take am for chin, he go keep on going. I go make sure say I go see some matches from Real Madrid to get my last impressions. He dey on the long list, everybody still dey mix. For now, some of the guys just dey ahead.”
England go play Uruguay for Wembley on Friday before Japan match, with White now dey compete with Djed Spence and Tino Livramento for right-back position. Tuchel urge fans to give White fair chance as he try prove point after long absence from England setup.
