Naija political scene dey hot like fire dis days as both opposition and ruling party don cross di red line wey suppose dey for politics. Di tension dey high pass before, and di fear na say innocent pipo go suffer for di middle of dis power tussle. Di red line wey dem talk about na dat boundary wey politicians no suppose cross, but as election dey come, dem don forget all di rules.
Remember di 1959 election wey happen before independence? Dat time, election no too violent like now. Di Governor-General for dat time, Sir James Wilson Robertson, don warn politicians about hooliganism, but di election still hold peacefully. Big names like Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Chief Obafemi Awolowo all contest, and di Northern People’s Congress win di election. Di coalition government wey form dat time show say politicians fit work together.
But now, di story don change. Bombings, kidnappings, and violence don increase for many parts of di country. Some states don even become no-go areas because of insecurity. Di sad part na say dis violence dey related to di coming election. Opposition dey accuse ruling party of failure, while ruling party dey accuse opposition of causing trouble. Na di same method dem dey use wey dem use when dem dey opposition before.
Di problem na say Nigeria political system don become winner-take-all. If you win election, you take everything; if you lose, you no get any say. Opposition dey feel shut out of di system, and dis dey make dem desperate. Di ruling party dey act like monsters wey no want share power with anybody. Dis kind system na im dey cause chaos and make politicians cross red line.
Di innocent pipo na di ones wey dey suffer. Dem no get power or money, but dem dey face di consequences of di politicians’ fight. Di country don suffer civil war before, and di scars still dey. Politicians need remember say dem no get right to break up Nigeria because of election. If Nigeria break, dem no go find any country wey go allow dem enjoy dia loot like here.
Di solution na for politicians to ceasefire and respect di red line. Dem need remember say dia first duty na to serve di pipo, not to fight for power. Di system need change to make am more inclusive, so say opposition fit get say for governance. If not, di violence go continue, and di country go suffer more.
As election dey come closer, di tension go increase. Politicians need to dey careful and put di country first. Di red line no be something wey dem suppose cross, because once dem cross am, di consequences fit destroy everything wey dem dey fight for.
