Tobi Amusan start 2026 season with silver for 200m race for Jamaica

World record holder for women 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, don start her 2026 season with strong performance. The Nigerian athlete run 200m race for Velocity Fest wey happen for Jamaica, and she carry second place with silver medal. Amusan wey dey known for her speed for hurdles, show say she fit run other races too as she clock 23.25 seconds for the 200m event.

The race win by Jamaican sprint queen Elaine Thompson-Herah wey finish with 22.61 seconds. Another Jamaican runner, Ackera Nugent, come third with 23.35 seconds. This race na Amusan first competition since 2025 World Athletics Championships for Tokyo where she win silver medal as Nigeria only medal winner for that tournament.

Amusan performance for Jamaica show say she dey build form well for this new season as she prepare for big competitions wey dey ahead. The 28-year-old athlete don confirm say she go run for Prefontaine Classic for Eugene on July 4. That competition na part of Diamond League series and go hold for Hayward Field.

For Prefontaine Classic, Amusan go return to her main event, the 100m hurdles. The race go feature strong athletes like reigning Olympic champion Masai Russell, two-time world champion Danielle Williams, and World Championships bronze medallist Grace Stark. Amusan hold world record of 12.12 seconds for 100m hurdles.

Eugene na special place for Amusan career. She win her first world title for 2022 World Championships for that same venue and set the current world record there. She return to Eugene for 2023 and win Diamond League final title. Amusan don win Diamond League final for three straight seasons from 2021 to 2023.

The Nigerian athlete don establish herself as one of the top athletes for hurdles event for the past ten years. Her performance for Jamaica show say she dey maintain her form and ready for the challenges wey dey ahead for 2026 season.
