The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said endemic violence, conflict, access restrictions, operational interference, public health challenges and climate shocks such as floods and localized droughts worsen deteriorating humanitarian conditions.

OCHA reported that it called on the government to lead increased investment in peace and development to reduce humanitarian needs.

According to UN data, the country of some 11.5 million people has been in crisis since it gained independence from Sudan in 2011. The two countries have been locked in a sometimes violent dispute over the Abiye area for of their mutual line of demarcation. ■
